Strong magnetoelectric coupling at an atomic nonmagnetic electromagnetic probe in bismuth ferrite

چکیده
Isolated nonmagnetic substitutional defect ions experience huge coupled electric magnetic interaction in the single-phase multiferroic ${\mathrm{BiFeO}}_{3}$. In ferroelectric state above N\'eel temperature ${T}_{N}$, environment generates a single symmetric field gradient (EFG) parallel to polarization direction. Below distinct arises, monitored by probe nuclei via their moment. Two environments arise, given relative angle of local moment within its easy plane with respect EFG orientation. The between orientation and direction is most stable fitting parameter. concomitantly increases dramatically which reflects an outstandingly large magnetoelectric coupling. set best fits, two different form concurrently distinctly fields. ordering ${\mathrm{BiFeO}}_{3}$ thus completely distorts nucleus. implications for effect dopants are discussed. A third arising independent identified associated iron vacancy.

Magnetoelectric Effect in Ceramics Based on Bismuth Ferrite
Solid-state sintering method was used to prepare ceramic materials based on bismuth ferrite, i.e., (BiFeO3)1 - x -(BaTiO3) x and Bi1 - x Nd x FeO3 solid solutions and the Aurivillius Bi5Ti3FeO15 compound. The structure of the materials was examined using X-ray diffraction, and the Rietveld method was applied to phase analysis and structure refinement. Magnetoelectric coupling was registered in ...
متن کاملMagnetoelectric coupling at metal surfaces.
Magnetoelectric coupling allows the magnetic state of a material to be changed by an applied electric field. To date, this phenomenon has mainly been observed in insulating materials such as complex multiferroic oxides. Bulk metallic systems do not exhibit magnetoelectric coupling, because applied electric fields are screened by conduction electrons. We demonstrate strong magnetoelectric coupli...
متن کاملInfluence of strain and oxygen vacancies on the magnetoelectric properties of multiferroic bismuth ferrite
The dependencies on strain and oxygen vacancies of the ferroelectric polarization and the weak ferromagnetic magnetization in the multiferroic material bismuth ferrite, BiFeO3, are investigated using first principles density functional theory calculations. The electric polarization is found to be rather independent of strain, in striking contrast to most conventional perovskite ferroelectrics. ...
متن کاملOrbital magnetoelectric coupling at finite electric field
We extend the band theory of linear orbital magnetoelectric coupling to treat crystals under finite electric fields. Previous work established that the orbital magnetoelectric response of a generic insulator at zero field comprises three contributions that were denoted as local circulation, itinerant circulation, and Chern-Simons. We find that the expression for each of them is modified by the ...
